THE SOUTHEASTERN TECH SUPPORT HOTLINE: ANY ISSUE. ANY PROBLEM. ANYTIME.

No one buys heavy machinery with the expectation it will break down. But the truth is, breakdowns happen. And when they do, missed deadlines and downtime can be costly to your business and your bottom line.

When it comes to repairs, a bit of inside knowledge can be a real game changer. That’s where Southeastern’s Tech Support Hotline comes in.

“Depending on the type of machine, common problems range from error codes and electrical problems to hydraulic issues,” says Ralph McConaughy, Technical Support Specialist. “When people run into a problem they can’t fix or a question they need answered, I’m here to help.”

Ralph manages the support hotline. And with more than 30 years of industry experience, he knows his grease and gears. Like many technicians, he developed his interest in heavy equipment working alongside his dad in eastern Ohio’s mining industry. Over the years, he’s held tech positions with lift truck manufacturers and other heavy equipment dealers for the construction and mining industry. He joined Southeastern in 2009.

Right now, he fields about 10 to 12 calls a day for customers or anyone who needs a helping hand. “I haven’t run into a problem yet I haven’t been able to fix,” says Ralph. “That’s not to say it won’t happen. But I’ve seen a thing or two during my career. It’s very rewarding to help people troubleshoot issues and get them up and running.”

HOW IT WORKS

The hotline is free and open to anyone by calling 740-260-9224. Live support is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. After-hours calls will be returned the next day. When you call, it helps to have the following information ready:

  • Model and serial number of the machine or engine
  • Description of the problem
  • Owner’s manual or equipment logs if available

TIPS FROM THE TECH

As Ralph notes, preventing problems before they start is always a great defense against downtime. So it’s important to understand what can lead to common problems with heavy equipment.

  • Machine is not maintained

If you aren’t greasing your machine properly, you may run into issues. Use OEM recommended lubricants and parts to keep it in working order. You should also do a daily inspection of your machine, which means checking your fluids and greasing your pins.

Southeastern sells OEM lubricants and parts for CASE, Kobelco, Bomag, and Etnyre through our online parts store, parts.southeasternequip.com. Roll on over to get 1,000’s of parts just one click away.

  • Not reading the Owner’s Manual

It seems like commons sense, but many problems occur simply because the machine is not being operated properly. The manual can help you make sure your machine is calibrated correctly and remind you of some simple troubleshooting techniques, which may be all you need.

  • Overworking the machine

While it’s tempting to work your machine past its max capacity, prolonged use isn’t recommended and can lead to system failures. Straining the drives makes you more vulnerable to breakdowns. If you’re not sure what your equipment is rated for, give us a call at 740-260-9224. We’re happy to help.

  • Trying to do everything yourself

Do It Yourself doesn’t have to mean Do It Alone. These tips can extend the life of your investment and keep your machine running. But they aren’t the only things you should do.
